Lakewood Soccer Association Names Lewis Oteruelo as General Manager of Operations

Oct 16, 2017

Lakewood Soccer Association has announced the appointment of Lewis Oteruelo as their new General Manager of Operations. Lewis has over 20 years of experience as a coach and manager within Saskatoon soccer organizations.

He recently led a Saskatoon U13 boys team to a gold medal at the Saskatchewan Summer Games. His playing experience includes the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and the competitive club level for much of his career. Lewis holds a Commerce Degree from the University of Saskatchewan and has held several management roles throughout his professional career.

Lewis has worked with the Lakewood club prior to this recent appointment for the past 11 months. His impact on the organization has been immediate. Lakewood’s Indoor soccer enrolment is up close to 20% year over year. Amongst other initiatives, Lewis has been asked to help re-introduce soccer within our zone’s elementary schools most recently helping Ecole Lakeview School run a week long program during Phys-ed.

“Having Lewis come in was so great for my own professional learning around soccer and it also gave me a deeper appreciation and understanding of soccer and the different ways to introduce the fundamental skills”.

Lakewood was interested in acquiring Lewis because of his ability to relate to youth, to make youth feel valued and to take a simple, yet effective approach to teaching soccer. These attributes closely align with Lakewood’s soccer philosophy and values.

“First and foremost, soccer should be fun for all levels of play and for all age groups. We compete with so many options when it comes to kid’s time these days. It is our primary goal to ensure athletes enjoy their time and overall experience when playing for Lakewood,” says Lewis.

Lewis has been at the forefront of offering new opportunities to Saskatchewan athletes, recently taking a contingency of players to Barcelona and Beijing to experience soccer outside of our province. He looks forward to implementing partnerships globally in an effort to expose our athletes to these types of opportunities.

“We look forward to having Lewis implement some of his new ideas into our club. His commitment to ensuring soccer is fun for all levels made him our top choice for the position,” states Leonard Lewko,  President of Lakewood Soccer.

Lakewood Soccer Association provides youth soccer league opportunities, player development academies and goalkeeper academies to youth in Saskatoon. Lakewood’s soccer philosophy is to create a fun environment where players learn the game of soccer, and develop with character, attitude and desire. Lakewood Soccer hosts two KickStart tournaments annually. An Indoor KickStart normally the 2nd week of November and an Outdoor KickStart usually the 2nd week in May.
